Gordon "Lamar" Waters, Sr., 93, of Memphis went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 08, 2014 after a short battle with liver cancer. He was a native of Bulloch County Georgia and had lived in Memphis, Tennessee since 1944. He was the son of the Late James Frary and Sadie Denmark Waters. Mr. Waters was a devout Christian and a faithful servant to the Lord. He was a long time member of Bellevue Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 36 years. He led Boy Scouts of America for years where he shared his love of knot tying and bullwhips. Lamar is preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Lee King Waters, two sisters, Charlie Sue Waters Richardson(J.W.) and Frary Alcesta Waters McInelly(Leon) and one brother, Gibson Denmark Waters, Sr.(Gladys) He leaves four children: Charlotte Traicoff of Memphis, Lamar Waters, Jr.(Karen) of Hailey ID, James Foy Waters(Donna) of Zebulon, NC and Jane Carol Brooks(David) of Collierville; one sister, Edna Blanch Waters Stewart(Kenneth) of Savannah, GA; four grandchildren: Chris Traicoff, Josh Ammer, Emma King(Andrew), Mallory Brooks and Jed Waters; also one great-granddaughter, Nori Ammer. A private graveside service was held at Forest Hill South Cemetery. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Foxbridge Assisted Living and Crossroads Hospice.
