Mr. William "Bill" Reid, 77, of Moberly, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014, after suffering a stroke on May 17, 2014. He was born July 13, 1936 in Moberly, to William and Vetura (Faubion) Reid. Bill lived his entire life in Moberly.
A true gentleman and one of Moberly’s long-time retail merchants. He worked over 60 years in the family business, Duval & Reid Clothing Co., which his father founded in 1928, and is now owned and operated by his oldest son, Bill Jr.
Over the years, Bill served his community in many ways. In addition to the operation of Duval & Reid, he helped with the start up of the Moberly High School baseball team, Stubbins Youth Home and Mainstreet Moberly.
Bill was a stellar athlete as a young man in Moberly. He was a starter on Moberly’s only undefeated high school football team in 1950-51, and a member of the 1954-55 Moberly Junior College National Championship basketball team, and was the most decorated Ban Johnson League baseball player ever with a league record of 6 All-Star team selections. He is considered by many to be one of the finest athletes ever from the Moberly area. Bill turned down the opportunity to play professional baseball so he could work with his father at Duval & Reid.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, with a history of commitment to youth activities and retailing in the Moberly area. He was an active life-long member of Coates Street Presbyterian Church serving as both a Deacon and Elder.
