Cpt.(RET) Grady L. Barnes, 82, born on June 21, 1932, in Frost, TX, entered the gates of Heaven, June 28, 5:45pm at home with his loving wife and daughter at his side. He grew up in Tiago, TX, and joined the Army at the age of 17. He fought during the Korean War, where he was injured in battle and later treated on the USS Consolation. He was awarded the Army Commendation, Good Conduct, WWII Occupation, National Defense Service, Korea Service, with five Bronze Stars, and UN Service Medals. While at Ft. Bliss, TX, he met Virginia Perez and married her February 29, 1952 in Las Cruces, NM. He rose from the rank of enlisted to the officer rank of Captain, and was stationed in Germany, Oklahoma, Kwajalein, Okinawa, and Texas, where he retired in 1969. Grady was a great mathematician, a pioneer with Nike Missile System and founder of Barnes Energy Inc. where he discovered and developed a working prototype of capturing kinetic energy. He founded Barnes Home and Pest Services in 1974. Grady loved watching the Cowboys, coaching youth football, "being out on the land", "RV-ing", dancing, and spending time with his family. He also treasured his Yorkshire Terrier, Buttercup. He was a member of post 8919, VFW, and American Legion, post 58. He was baptized as a Christian and worshiped at the Roman Catholic Church. He was blessed with seven children. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-law, friend and servant to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary; his parents, Robert and Rachel; his brother, Robert; and his sister, Violet Brown. He is survived by his wife, a sister, two daughters, four sons, 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and numerous family members. Visitation: 5:00pm-9:00pm, Vigil/Rosary: 7:00pm Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home-NE. Celebratory Mass: 10:00am Monday, July 7, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial: 11:00am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
