He was born Oct. 21, 1927, in Marengo, a son of Chester L. and Mary Dewey. He married Joanne M. Mstoller on Aug. 26, 1951, in Heyworth. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Steven E. (Gwen) Dewey, Basal, Switzerland; and Bob (Marlene) Dewey, Heyworth; one daughter, Susan K. (John) Rehtmeyer, McLean; eight grandchildren, Kirk Dewey, Hannah Dewey, Eric Dewey, Christina Dewey, Katie Dewey, Kara Dewey, Jason Rehtmeyer and Amanda Rehtmeyer; two brothers, Dr. Melvin G. (Laurie) Dewey, Peoria; and Joe (Nancy) Dewey, Paxton; and one sister, Lois (Roy) Bennett, Mackinaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son; one daughter; and one sister, Mary Ellen McMurray.
Mr. Dewey was a farmer. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the United Church of Heyworth (United Methodist), and a member of several organizations.
