Mrs. Lydia Slusser Kerr, widow of John Kerr and mother of Charles H. Kerr, former mayor of Independence, died last night at 10:45 at the family home,528 South Second. Infirmities of old age were given as the cause of death. She was 91 years old and a pioneer resident of this city.
Born near Evansport, Ohio, May 20, 1840, Mrs. Kerr taught school for a short time and later took charge of her father's household after the death of her mother. She was married in 1867 to Mr. Kerr, a young carriage maker of a neighboring town. They came to Independence in 1871 and built a home at 315 West Main. It was the family home until after the death of Mr. Kerr in 1900.
Mrs. Kerr was a charter member of the First Presbyterian church of Independence and for years took an active part in church activities. Besides the son, other surviving relatives are: one brother, Allen Slusser, Bryan, Ohio, one sister, Mrs. P. S. Hollings. Guernville, Calif., and one grandson, John J. Kerr, Independence. Three children died in infancy.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Potts chapel at 2:30 with the Rev. John L. Gehman, pastor of the First Presbyterian church in charge. Burial will be in Mount Hope.
