Obituary from May 23, 1901 Wayne County Press:

JOHN H. BARNARD was born in Ohio county, Ky., Nov. 14, 1828. Died at his home, near Crisp, Wayne County, IL. April 26, 1901, aged 72 years, 5 months and 12 days. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth A. Cain in Indiana about the year 1850. To this union was born ten children, eight sons and two daughters. Six children have preceded him to the better land. He moved from Kentucky to Indiana in the spring of 1855. In January 1876, he removed to Illinois, settling in Wayne county, where he has since resided. He was converted and united with the M.E. church in the fall of 1849 and has ever since remained a faithful member. Short funeral services were conducted by the pastor at Mt. Olivet church. Owing to the illness of his wife the funeral sermon will be preached later. Burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery.Chas. O. McMullen, Pastor M.E. Church
