KEARNEY — Dorothy Ellen Shane, 88, of Kearney, formerly of Overland Park, Kan., died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at St. Luke's Good Samaritan Village.
Private family inurnment was at Page Cemetery in Holt County.
She was born July 26, 1925, in Churchville, Iowa, in Warren County to Gailard and Prudence Albright.
In 1947, she married Clifford Shane. He died in 2010.
Survivors include her sisters, Jo Hoffman and her husband, Omer, of Clearwater, Inez Stevens of Anderson, Ind., formerly of Kearney, and LaVonne Buxton of Kearney; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Dorothy spent her early years in Iowa and moved to Page with her family in 1930. Dorothy attended the Methodist Church in Page and at times sang duets with her sister, LaVonne. Dorothy graduated from Page High School in 1943.
Following graduation, Dorothy moved to Lincoln where she met the love of her life, Clifford Shane. After Cliff's death, Dorothy moved to Kearney where she could be surrounded and cared for by her family.
During their 62 years of marriage, Dorothy and Cliff lived in several states, including Illinois, Ohio, New York, Washington and Kansas as Cliff was transferred with each job advancement during his career with the Food and Drug Administration.
Family and friends were a vital part of the life Cliff and Dorothy shared, whether it was gathering for Cliff's naval ship reunion, the annual Page High School Reunion, golf friends, family reunions or the graduation or wedding of one of their many nieces or nephews.
Dorothy was noted for her kind and generous nature, always thinking of others and how she might help them. Dorothy loved to entertain and her home was always open — she was the ultimate hostess. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sue Ellen; her parents; brothers, Melvin Albright and Sterling Albright; sisters-in-law, Donna Albright and Becky Albright; and brother-in-law, Arnott Buxton.
