Henry "Ralph" Conard
November 17, 1924 - June 29, 2014

Age 89 years and 7 months, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron, Missouri, after a lengthy illness. He was born November 17, 1924 in Halls, Missouri, the son of Henry Clay and Mary Ella (Crossfield) Conard. He attended Hosea Elementary and Benton High School and the St. Joseph Junior College. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy, from March 8, 1943 to January 29, 1946, as 3rd class Boatsman in Bremerton, Washington, also serving in Alaska on the USS Hamul (AD20) Naval Ship. He was awarded a Star and the American Area and the Victory medal USS APL28. He was very proud of his military service. He worked at Swift & Company, Farmland, and AGP, and also owned and operated the Deep Rock Service Station on the South Side of St. Joseph. He enjoyed volunteering for the last 20 years at Heartland Hospital in pastoral care service. He also held Bible service at Wesley Senior Towers. Ralph was a member of the former Hyde Valley United Methodist Church. He married Mildred Hegenderfer Thurn, on November 7, 1962 in St. Joseph, Missouri. and she survives of the home. Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, a son in law, Randy West, four brothers; Ivan, Bill, Roy and James Conard; three sisters; Zetta Vann, Elsie Admire, and Kathleen Atkins Grieshaber. Addiional survivors include, two daughter, Cheryl Ann West, and Jane Grace (Tony) Siela, and a son, Kent (Carol) Conard, all of St. Joseph, Missouri, five grandchildren: Amy (Grover) Musser, Brandon (Jill) West, Bethany(Eric) George, Jared (Beth) Grace, and Kali (Bradley) Maloney, 10 great grandchildren, Paige & Cade Musser, Courtney, Camren, & Ashlyn West, Zoe Maloney, Mason Grace, Madison Kovac, Shannon & Cameron Haws, and a sister, Betty McCarty.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am, on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the Cameron Veterans Home or the Parkinson Foundation.
