At Anne's marriage her maiden surname is recorded as Belden. At Wethersfield and nearby towns, during the 1600s the Belden family was early written as Belding. By the 1750s principally through the efforts of Rev. Joshua Belden of the Newington Parish of Wethersfield (now Newington, Conn.), the surname was subsequently restored to its correct spelling of Belden.
On Sept. 27, 1750 at Wethersfield's Stepney Parish Church (now Rocky Hill, Conn.), Anne m. John Montague, s. of Richard Montague and Abigail Benton, b. Oct. 17, 1722 at Wethersfield. He d. intestate at Wethersfield before Dec. 24, 1767, the date administration of his insolvent estate was granted to the widow Anne, followed by his estate inventory taken Mar. 16, 1768 (Hart. Prob. Dist. Abstract, 20:312.)
By 1899 neither Anne nor husband John Montague had known gravestones, but as John Montague's estate was insolvent at his death and the immediate family is knowingly interred at Wethersfield's village cemetery, it is assumed they are also interred there in unmarked graves.
Anne Belden and John Montague had at least eight, possibly nine, recognized children either b. or only bapt. of record at Wethersfield, being one more than claimed by the 1886 pub. Montague Gen. The children are/will be summarized in their father's memorial.
