MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. -- Mr. Clyde E. Allen, 69, of Melbourne Beach, formerly of Lanett, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at his residence.

Memorial services will be held in Florida.

Mr. Allen is survived by two sisters, Arene Thoumy of Vero Beach, Fla., and Mildred Donehoo of Atlanta; his sister-in-law, Pat Allen, and brother-in-law, George Howell, of Lanett; and several nieces and nephews.

Born June 30, 1931 in Lanett, Mr. Allen was known as an industrious young teenager who worked and bought land with his savings. After high school, he joined the Marines and served in the Korean War. He was a career officer in the Marines. He was a pilot on an aircraft carrier and was later a test pilot. After his retirement, he and his wife, Josephine, bought a home in Melbourne Beach. He was preceded in death by his wife.
