John William Brown, also known by his family and friends as "Bill", entered eternal life surrounded by his family on Friday, June 27, 2014.
Born on February 3, 1933 in Antwerp, New York to Roy and Elizabeth Brown, Bill was raised on the family farm until graduating from Indian River High School. He then went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in physical education from Ithaca College. Before Bill could use his gentle nature and patience to coach the best from the many elementary students he encountered during his years of teaching, Bill proudly served his country for two years as a surveyor in the United Sates Army. After his retirement from thirty four years of teaching, he continued to serve his community as Antwerp Town Justice, freely offering counsel and advice to those who asked.
Bill's lifetime accomplishments include not only being present but actively involved in his children and grandchildren's lives, establishing the first rescue squad in his community of Parishville, NY, and being a fifty plus year member of the Antwerp Masonic Lodge.
His family was blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Bill during his 81 years and among the favorites are his famous statements: "Don't love anything that can't love you back, "and "Be where you are ".
His spirit is carried on by the love of his life, his wife Patricia "Pat" Brown and their children: Bryan (wife Mary, children Sara and Christopher, wife Danielle, children Evelina and Emmett), Jeffrey (wife Valerie, son John), Mark (wife Kari, children Luke and Jesse), and Laura (husband Jim, children Caitlin and Joshua).

A memorial service to honor Bill's life will be held Sunday, July 6, 2014 from 1PM to 3 PM at the Creek View Community Club in Carlisle, PA. After a private family funeral, his final resting place will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg, PA. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Bill in his final months. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Celtic Hospice, 220 Wilson Street, Suite 100, Carlisle, PA 17013.
