Nelson Ball passed on to his eternal reward on October 30th 2016 in the Willis-Knighton Bossier Health Center in Shreveport LA at age 89.

He was a resident of Lufkin for many years, and attended Denman Avenue Baptist church faithfully. He moved to Shreveport to be near family in June of 2016.

Nelson was born on 13 June 1927 in San Angelo, Texas, but soon moved to Mena Arkansas. He spent his youth enjoying the simple country life with love of his family and a strong Christian upbringing.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946, after which he returned to San Angelo, met and married the love of his life, Grace A. Greer (Ball). They were married on Sept. 10, 1947 in San Angelo. They remained married for 64 years until her death in June, 2012. His greatest anticipation was to join hands with her in Heaven, which he achieved at his passing. The thought of the two of them holding hands again provides great joy for his family as they always walked hand in hand here on earth.

Nelson was survived by his four loving children, Patricia A. Hutcheson (Michael), Wanda Shunk McGee (Charlie), Doug Ball (Vicki), and Dan Ball (Teresa). He had 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; parents, Nelson E. Ball and Lou E. Ball; all of his brothers and sisters.

Family held a strong bond for Nelson, and he will be missed by the entire Ball family. Nelson's faith was strong and unwavering, and he looked forward to the day when he would meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He told of his salvation experience occurring in the forest near his Arkansas home where he felt the call of the Lord to the faith. He credited his mother with showing him the way. He remained a faithful Christian, raising his family in the church and helping them maintain their faith. He retired from the U.S. Forestry Service, loved fishing, golf, and playing 42 with anyone he could get up a game with. He was an active member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association after his retirement.

A memorial "celebration of life" family gathering was held in Shreveport where all four of his children attended as well as other family members who were able. He will be cremated in Shreveport, at the Boone Funeral Home. His ashes will be interred next to his beloved Grace in the Whitehouse Cemetery in Lufkin as his final resting place.
