Neff, Dorcas Isabelle Neff nee Brown

Monroe County Republican, Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, November 6, 1952

Dorcas Isabelle Neff, daughter of Joseph and Jane McCammon Brown was born near Woodsfield, June 30, 1870 and departed this life at her home in Columbus, Ohio, September 14, 1952, aged eighty-two years, two months and fifteen days.

On December 27, 1893 she was united in marriage with John J. Neff and they established their home in the Laings community. To this union five children were born, two of whom died in infancy.

Surviving with her husband are three daughters, Lucille, Ellen and Mrs. Sara Jacquemin, also a grand-daughter Jane Jacquemin, all of Columbus; a foster son, Albert C. Harris of Ft. Collins, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. L. B. Griffith of Meridian, Idaho, and Mrs. W. A. Cunningham of Columbus; a brother, J. W. Brown of Greggton, Texas.

Preceding her in death were her parents and three sisters, Mrs. C. H. Moffett, Mrs. William Roth and Miss Oleta Brown.

At an early age Mrs. Neff united with the Moffett's Methodist Church later transferring her membership to the Laings Presbyterian Church in which she was an active member and Sunday School teacher for a number of years. Since living in Columbus she had belonged to the Indianola Presbyterian Church. She loved her church and all of its activities and was always interested in the good of the community in which she lived.

Many students attending Ohio State University have made their home with the Neffs. Mrs. Neff took a special interest in them and in their progress in school. She thought of them all as her boys. Their visits and letters were a constant source of joy and satisfaction to her. This association with youth kept Mrs. Neff young in spirit in spite of advancing years.

It can be truly said that she enjoyed life and loved her fellowmen and was in turn loved by them which was attested to by the many beautiful flowers and the innumerable messages of sympathy received by her sadly bereaved family.

Funeral services were conducted at the Davis Funeral Home in Columbus by her pastor, Dr. Frederick Christian assisted by her former pastor Dr. Robert R. Reed Wednesday morning Sept. 17, 1952 at eleven o'clock.

Interment was made in Union Cemetery.

"Who can find a virtuous woman, for her price is far above rubies."

" She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea she reacheth forth her hand to the needy."

"She looketh well to the ways of her household and eatheth not the bread of idleness."

"Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also and he praiseth her."

"Many daughters have one virtuously, but thou excellest them all."
