Alice L. (Payne) Bowser, age 84, a lifelong resident of the Swanton and Delta, Ohio area, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2006, surrounded by her loving family at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee. She was born January 16, 1922, in McClure, Ohio, to George and Delsy (Jennings) Payne. She attended Monclova High School, where she lettered in basketball. Alice was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran. She married Clifford Wayne Bowser on November 20, 1945, and he preceded her in death September 22, 1984. Also preceding her in death were her parents; son, Gary; brothers, Robert and Russell Payne and sisters, Jeanette Eickholt, Helen Leitner and Grace Reese.
Alice owned and operated a janitorial service. She provided services at Toledo Express Airport for United Airlines and the FAA offices. At the airport, she was known as Code Alice. Alice was a member of the New Horizon Community Church in Delta and the Swanton American Legion Post #479. In her later years, she took flying lessons and attended the 50th anniversary of the Women's Army Corp. She will be remembered as a person who kept in close contact with family and friends.
