Mayme Ethel (Ayers) Ables, age 88, long-time resident of Brady, passed away Wednesday June 25, 2014 in San Angelo, Texas.

She was born December 30, 1925 in El Paso, Texas to U.L. Ayers and Rubinell (Randle) Ayers. She grew up during the Great Depression and after her brother Randle was born in 1929 the family moved to Fentress, Texas. She became ill from meningitis when she was a junior in high school. She missed most of that year of school but with her aunt's help in teaching her during the summer she was able to graduate with her classmates from Prairie Lea High School in 1943. After graduation, she attended San Marcos College during the day and worked at night as a telephone operator.

Mayme and her parents moved to San Antonio where she worked at Sears & Roebuck in the purchasing department. One of her friends at work introduced her to a friend in Brady.

On September 30, 1950 she married Robert Doyle Ables in the parsonage of the First Baptist Church in Brady, where they made their home.

During their marriage, they had 3 children. Cooking was a big part of family life and Mayme loved sharing her recipes and finding new ones from family and friends. She was active in all the interest of her kids including the PTA, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She loved taking pictures, playing cards with friends and crocheting. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brady.

Funeral services for Mayme Ables will be held at 10:00am Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady, Texas at with Derland Bahr officiating. Interment will follow at the Rochelle Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 55 years Robert Doyle Ables, brother Randle Ayers and daughter-in-law Karen Sundstrom Ables.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Viki Forlano, Emily Bererra and all the nurses and staff at Regency House.
