John Tilley first settled in Cape Ann, MA in 1624, where he was a fisherman. He later moved to Dorchester, MA in 1633 and by 1635 he was living in Windsor, CT. John was murdered by native Americans when he left his boat on the CT River to go hunting. This along with other factors led to the Pequot War. The above paragraph was provided by Nancy FAG #48817678. The piece on John Tilley was put in when it was thought that he was the father of Elizabeth. He was the father of another Elizabeth Tilley born in Henlow, England.
Elizabeth married Thomas on Aug. 21 or Oct. 21, 1653 in Springfield, MA. They had seven children and they were Miriam b. May 1, 1656, John b. Nov. 1658, Elizabeth b. Jul 4, 1661, Thomas b. Jan. 2, 1664, Tilley b. Oct. 1667 (FAG #5969001), James b. Mar. 2, 1670 (FAG #58118800), and Abigail b. Sept. 1, 1673 (FAG #113649921). There has not been definitive proof, but it is thought that Elizabeth's grandfather was John Tilley the Pilgram FAG #16539001.
According to one small write up I found Elizabeth Tilley was the Great granddaughter of Elizabeth Tilley (1544-1644) who was the mother of both John Tilley, and his brother Edward, both of whom were passengers on the Mayflower.
If Elizabeth's remains were removed from this burial ground they would have been reburied in Springfield Cemetery and there is a head stone on Thomas site with an explanation under the picture.
Thomas' father was Rev. John Meyrick (The Immigrant). He was born Jan. 1, 1579 in St. Davids, Pembrookeshire, Wales and died Jan. 26, 1650 in Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA. Thomas' mother was Dorothy Bishop born in 1570 in St. Davids, Wales and died June 25, 1650 in Roxbury, MA.
