Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother, Joseph Vernon Tanner, 80, of Spanish Fork, died on Tuesday, February 4, 1997, at the Lake View Hospital in Bountiful.

He was born on July 11, 1916 in Payson, Utah the son of Leland Scott Tanner and Emily Lucile Duke Tanner. He married Cloeteele Earley on June 25, 1940, in Nephi, Utah. She died on November 29, 1992.

He was educated in Salem, Payson and Spanish Fork Schools. He also attended electrical school at the trade tech. He worked as a miner, and on the railroad as a fireman. He also worked at the Utah State Hospital as a boiler engineer and painter. He retired in 1982.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, swimming, diving, sledding and ice skating. He had a nursery and enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the LDS Church and served in the scouting program.

Survivors include two sons and two daughters; Dick and Shirley Clyde, of Woodscross; David and Carol Anderson of Logan; Douglas and Jill Tanner of Carson City, Nevada; Dennis and Brenda Tanner of Lake Havasu; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister; Glen D. and Margaret Tanner of Spanish Fork; Clell and Phyllis Porter, of Salem; brother-in-law Dee Sparks of Nephi. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Tanner and one sister, Donna T. Sparks.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 8, 1997, at 1 p.m. in the Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, Utah. Friends may call at the mortuary on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
