Mrs. Hurd Funeral Held Last Sunday

Throngs Pay Respect To Beloved Woman Who Died September 24

The funeral of Beryl E. Hurd, wife of William Hurd, who passed away following a protracted illness at her home in Lafayette on Thursday, September 24, was held at the Lafayette M. E. church last Sunday afternoon. That Mrs. Hurd was universally loved and respected was attested by the great crowd of people who attended the services.

The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Alexander Bryans, pastor of the church. Beautiful music was rendered by the Lafayette Choral club, of which William Hurd has been a faithful member since the club's organization. The pallbearers were long-time friends of the Hurd family. They were: W. F. Autrey, J. C. Witt, George I. Miller, George Nelson, John White and G. Pierson. A large number of beautiful floral pieces from friends and organizations of which Mrs. Hurd was a member, testified to the esteem in which she was held. Following the services at the church scores of automobiles formed a cortege which accompanied the remains to their last resting place in Crown Hill cemetery in Denver.

Beryl Elizabeth Beynon was born in Iowa December 7, 1884. When a mere baby she came to Lafayette with her parents. When she was five years of age her mother was called by death. At the death of her mother she was taken to the home of an aunt in Iowa. Here she remained until 1901, when she returned to Lafayette. November 25, 1903, she was united in marriage to William Hurd, who with one daughter Miss Mabel, and one son Elmer, survive her.

Mrs. Hurd was a devoted wife and mother, and ever was the joy and comfort of the home. And not only in her immediate family circle but among hosts of friends did her gentle ways and helpful spirit endear her to everyone with whom she came in contact. She ever held a deep interest in religious matters. She was a faithful member of the Ladies' Aid society of the M. E. church and as long as her health permitted she enjoyed the services of God's house. She was an active member of Lafayette Rebekah lodge and her place will be hard to fill. The members of the Rebekah lodge attended the funeral in a body and took charge of the services at the grave.

Besides her husband and children, Mrs. Hurd is survived by her father, Thomas Beynon, her stepmother, one sister, Mrs. Elsie Hill of Sidney, Nebraska, and one brother, Guy E. Beynon of El Centro, California.
