According to what i was rold by the pastor of New Prospect, there was a Lutheran church prior to New Prospect Baptist. John Teeter Beam established this church about 1802.
Many old unmarked gravesites exist on the newer burial grounds.

John Teter Beam was born 25 Nov 1732 to Michael Baum (Beam) and wife Sarah Rudolph. in Hamburg Germany and died in 1807 Lincolnton, Lincoln County, North Carolina.

He studied the Weaver's trade in Geneva, Switzerland where he was married to his first wife Miss Rebecca Ranyolds in 1764. The left and landed in Charleston, SC in November 1767 with his wife and two children, John and David. Settled on Beaver Dam Creek which was then known as Mecklenburg County, Now Gaston Co, where he resided until 1794, when he purchased and removed to Lincoln County. His wife, Rebecca, died in 1779 leaving him six children.

He was later married to Miss Elizabeth Rudolph in Lincoln County in 1781, who died in 1841 to which more children were born. In 1801 he built on Cleveland County a site a house for worship for his non denominational, Lutheran, which church he always opened to all other denominations. He was Elder in said Lutheran Church at time of his death.

In a pioneer life of 75 years, he met every expectation of man.. (memorial erected 1937). He is honored as a patriot with the Daughters of the American Revolution Ancestor #A007947 as well as the Sons of the American Revolution Patriot #P-111453
