FRANCES REMER A forty year resident of Fremont passed away at Washington Hospital on Saturday October 13, 2007. Frances was a true survivor, dealing with the effects of multiple sclerosis for over fifty years. Her life was a true miracle indeed. She spent 25 years with her husband Fred J. Remer whom she had four children with. Together they raised Fred L. Remer, Michael Remer, Claudia Boliba, and Stephanie Hare. Mr. Remer passed away in 1973 of heart disease and their oldest son Fred passed away in 1996. The remainder of the family still reside in the bay area and in Oregon where she had also lived for quite a few years. Frances was an avid fisherwoman, mechanic, housewife, crocheter, and always lent a hand in the family businesses. Her husband had a furniture store, and her sons had a motorcycle shop and nursery. Despite her illness she helped each one of them and currently she helped her daughters set up and open Gazos Grill restaurant on highway one in Pescadero CA. Frances was born Frances Mae Hamblin January 5, 1926 to Ollie Mae Shrader in Elk City Oklahoma. Her Grandmother Nona helped raise her younger brother Charles Hamblin and herself. She moved from Oklahoma to King City with her family to find work. Frances worked as a waitress in a cafe but her most notable feat as a young woman was riding on the back of a motorcycle in the ball of death for a circus that came to town. Frances eventually married Fred J Remer who was in the Navy at the time. She traveled overseas with her young children while he was in the service. They settled in Fremont where their kids grew up and finished school. Frances leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was a wonderful support system for all she could help out. An honest sweet person that knew what she wanted. There was a celebration of her life at 10:00am mass at Saint Josephs Catholic church in Mission San Jose on October 29, 2007. A memorial luncheon was held at Gazos Grill restaurant in Pescadero, CA at 2:00pm Oct. 29, 2007 Friends and family welcome. Frances strong will and spirit will live on through the courage she showed to all who were near and dear to her.
