Mrs. Dorothy Birchard Mulroney, 72, widow of Elmer W. Mulroney, of 200 West 55th St. New York City, formerly of this city, died Tuesday in New York. She was the Springfield Municipal organist in the 1930's and played at all public functions here, including all high school graduations.

She was well known as an organist and teacher, and was a former organist, choir director and carilloneur at Trinity Methodist Church. She served at Trinity Methodist for more than 10 years, and enjoyed for a long time the distinction of being the only woman carilloneur in The United States.

She had toured Europe and England giving concerts on tehcarillon and was internationally famous for her concerts.

She was born Sept. 10, 1891 in Norwich, Ct. the daughter of Arthur & Grace (Dixon) Birchard, and had lived in this city for many years. She was a 1910 graduate of Classical High School and received an honorary degree in Music from American International College.

She also served as director of the Springfield Community Singing Club and The Springfield Hospital Nurses Glee Club. After moving to New York in the 1940's she continued her musical work and also served as Municipal therapist for the New York City Bureau of Hospitals and was associated with the USO.

She leaves her mother, Mrs. Arthur R. Birchard Sr. of Lido, Long Island, three brothers, John D. of this city, Arthur R. of Pittsfield, and Frederic A. of East Orange, NJ. two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth R. Nierman & Miss Constance H. Birchard, both of Long Island.

The funeral will be held at the Dickinson-Streeter funeral home Friday at 12:30 p.m. with an Organ prelude at 12 noon. Rev. H. Hughes Wagner, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
