Betty Jean Massey, daughter of Henry Albert and Sarah Jane Cunningham Swin, was born September 27, 1934, in Bradner, Ohio, and departed this life May 22, 2009, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of seventy-four years.

On June 29, 1957, she was united in marriage with Robert Barringer, Sr. To this union was born three children, all surviving. Robert preceded her in death. She then united in marriage with Charles Massey on December 27, 1996. He also preceded her in death.

Betty made a profession of faith in Christ and at the time of her death, followed the Assembly of God faith. She treasured the relationships she had with her church family and also got great comfort out of listening to gospel music.

She lived her life to the fullest and lived everyday with an unmatched zest. Betty was very active and "on the go." Attending auctions, going to the races, swap meets and dancing were among her favorite pastimes.

Betty knew the "key to life" was laughter. She enjoyed making people smile, whether it was because she had unselfishly donated her time to them because of a certain need they had or because she was playing a practical joke, she made everyone around her feel comfortable and as if they were a part of her family. However, her most precious of all moments were those spent with her adoring family and treasured grandchildren.

She leaves to mourn her passing, two sons, Willie Barringer and his wife Missy of Lebanon and Robert (Rob) Barringer, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Reeds Spring, MO; one daughter, Peggy Porter and her husband Jim, also of Lebanon; a special step-son, Jessie Massey and his family; four sisters, Wilberta Kern, Emma Phillips, Lillian Lee and Anna McKenzie, all from out of state; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Sarah Rieff and Bertha Jackman, one brother, Willis Swin, one son-in-law, Preston Sterling and one grandson, Albert Sterling.

A doting mother, fun-loving grandmother, cherished sister, and loyal friend, with the ability to light up the room with her contagious laughter and infectious personality. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her will cherish every memory.
