Arlene Alola James, 88, died June 19, 2014 in her home in Monticello, Arkansas. She was born August 26, 1925 in St. Anthony Hospital in Dodge City, Kansas, to Jay and Eva Andrews. She was one of four children and grew up on a farm, the J. S. Ranch, outside of Bloom, a small town in western Kansas. Arlene graduated from Bloom High School and completed several semesters at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, played the trombone, and had a beautiful, alto voice.

Arlene married W.T. "Bill" James April 14, 1946. They were married 51 years before he died in 1997. While living in Colby, Kansas, Bill and Arlene owned and published a newspaper "The Prairie Drummer". She was the bookkeeper, and assisted with paste-up and proof reading the paper before it was printed. Arlene also taught piano lessons in their home.

In the late 1970's, Arlene and Bill moved to Lake Village, Arkansas for a few years and then to Monticello, Arkansas, where they owned and managed James Quick Print.

Arlene was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monticello. She was the organist, sang in the choir, and was a member of United Methodist Women.
