Carl Hanton, Jr., son of the founding editor of the Ft. Myers News-Press went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 11, 2004. He was born in Duluth, MN on May 18, 1930. He moved to Ft. Myers, FL as an infant where his family started the Ft. Myers News-Press. He was a lifelong professional newspaperman working as a bookbinder craftsman and foreman. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife Gloria of Naples, two sons, Carl Hanton, III of Ft. Myers, Daniel Hanton of Coleman, three daughters, Lynn V. Pearson of Bradenton, Sharon Ann Hanton, (deceased), Sandra Hanton Lovett of Bushnell, a granddaughter, Sherri Pearson of Bradenton, four step-daughters, Bonnie, Linda, Pamela and Lynn, a stepson, Richard and their spouses John, Jim, Andy, Danny and Misty, thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren all of North Florida.
Culleys Meadowood Funeral Home of 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee is in charge of arrangements. A private family service will be held in Bradenton on Saturday, October 16th. Special thanks from the family to the Naples and Big Bend Hospice for all of their love, respect and care.
