Rachel was the second child in a family of nine, was five feet eight inches tall and weighed 120 pounds. She had beautiful red hair, soft delicate skin, and was regal in her bearing. A spirited and lovely woman, efficient in everything she undertook, she met life's problems with undaunted courage. The first years of her life were spent in Orderville, Utah; than the family moved to Old Mexico. She passed away at the birth of her fourteenth child.

Rachel Ann Black Porter died on May 5, 1906 at Pacheco, Galeana, Chihuahua, Mexico at the Mormon Colonies shortly after giving birth to a daughter Blanche Porter who was born on April 27, 1906 and died on April 28, 1906. Rachel Ann Black Porter was buried on May 6, 1906 at Pacheco, Galeana, Chihuahua, Mexico.
