Esther Ford Dies
Mrs. Esther Irene Judd Ford, 80, died Thursday, at 4 a.m., December 26, 1946, at her home in Kanab from causes incident of old age. Funeral services will be held at the Kanab North Ward chapel Saturday, December, 28th.
Mrs. Ford came to Kanab with her parents in 1871 among the first pioneers to form the settlement. She was born in the vicinity of Parowan, Utah, on April 9, 1866, to Mary Minerva Dart and Zadok Knapp Judd. Mrs. Ford was the mother of ten children, of whom seven survive her. They are: Mrs. Josephine Johnson, Short Creek, Arizona; Z. James Ford, Clearfield, Utah; Clair Ford, Kanab; Charles Ford, Fredonia, Arizona; Mrs. Agnes Johnson, Kanab; Alfred Ford, Ogden; and Leland Ford, Salt Lake City. She is also survived by four brothers and one sister: Z.K. Judd and S.A. Judd of Kanab; Eli Judd and Asa Judd of Fredonia; and Mrs. Gertrude Cottam of St. George.
Mrs. Ford was married to John M. Ford in the St. George temple on January 22, 1886. They made their home in Kanab, contributing to the growth of this community until Mr. Ford's death on April 15, 1933. Mrs. Ford was very active in the L.D.S. church and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She had three sons serve during World War l and five grandsons surving during World War ll. Her posterity totals 33 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements for burial are being made by the Pickett mortuary and interment will be in the Kanab cemetery.
