Per info kindly provided by Findagrave member Maggie McGill-Zimny: Elijah Francis Atwood was born at his was born Farm Isreal Davis on York Road South of Spring Valley, Minnesota. At 14 months old he was adopted by Luke Harriet Stevens who lived around around Pleasant Grove, Minnesota until 1888, when they moved to Oklahoma. Francis then lived with his mother in Rochester Minnesota and attended his first year of high school. He then went with his Aunt Susan (Davis) Cram to Salem, Illinois to complete his high school education. In 1891 he returned to Pleasant Grove, Minnesota, where he taught school for year, then joined his brother Marvin (Atwood) McCain's farm in Edgerton, Wisconsin. He married Myrtle Eunice Gwilt in 1892. In 1898 Divorced, moved to Milbanks, South Dakota where he acquired a teaching position. Then Married Olive Clark in Sept 1900, had two children, both died young. They moved to Aberdeen, ran a restaurant and lodging house. In 1910 they moved to Sisseton, South Dakota, to again teach school and care for his father. He did extensive research in his Atwood Genealogy history, writing several books including 'Ye Atte Wode Annals". He was active into politics swell as a Justice of the peace. In 1946 he suffered a stroke, which partially paralyzed him on the left side, including his hearing. In 1949 suffered a second stroke affecting his mind and in January 1951 was committed to the state Hospital of Yankton, South Dakota. He died there of a Coronary Thrombosis on April 24, 1951. He is buried in their Cemetery number 15282, in grave 337.
