Funeral for Wayne C. Adams, 70, Lawton, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Gerald Green, chaplain, Lawton-Fort Sill Veterans Center, officiating.
Mr. Adams died Sunday, Feb 27, 2005, in Lawton.
He was born Dec 11, 1934, in Wilson to Elbert Cleo and Tressie Vaughn Adams. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1953 and was voted the second most popular boy. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1953 until retiring in 1974. He started his career as a paratrooper and advanced to helicopter pilot. Among the awards he earned were the Purple Heart, two awards, and the Flying Cross for Valor. After his retirement, he worked as a mail clerk with the U.S. Post Office. He married Mari Ann Baker in Healdton on May 13, 1955. He was a member of Medicine Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Susan Gay Smith, Kansas City, Mo; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Steven Wayne Adams and Scott Lee and Jeanna Adams, all of Dallas; three sisters: Ruth Tynes, Ardmore; Ora Mae Samples and Nellie Brodner, both of Dallas; five grandchildren: Jessica and Jillian Smith, Jeremy and Seth Adams and Stephanie Adams; and two great-grandchildren; Conner and Ashton Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Vernon Ray, E.C., Anthony Wayne and Virgil Leroy Adams; and a son-in-law, Richard Smith.
