Farrel Davies, long time Tooele High School teacher, died of natural causes in Salt Lake City on June 15, 2014.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Gloria, daughter Christine (Ken) McAfee of Sandy, sons Steve (Barbara) of Anchorage, Alaska and Mark (Linda) of Baltimore, Maryland.
Farrel was born December 8, 1928 in Lake Point to Brigham D. and Thelma H. Davies. He is survived by his siblings and their spouses Keith (Patricia), Gilbert's wife Jean, Darlene (Max) Welcker, Thelma (Ken) Gollagher, Janet (Walt) Parker, and Jerry (Linda).
Farrel was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Dory Olsen Davies, brothers Burton, Howard, and Gilbert, brother in-law Max, and sister in-law Clairene.
Raised in Lake Point and educated in Tooele County schools, Farrel married Gloria Anderson on November 24, 1949 and left shortly thereafter for an LDS mission in Hawaii. Gloria was able to join Farrel for the final six months of their mission, and together they enjoyed the islands, the Hawaiian Temple, and a long cruise home to San Francisco. He returned to Tooele and worked two jobs--at the US Post Office and the Tooele Army Depot--while Gloria completed cosmetology school and established Gloria's Beauty Shop.
Farrel then became a full-time student, receiving his teaching degree from the University of Utah in only three years. He taught history, geography, and psychology at Tooele High School from 1963 until 1992, serving as president of the Tooele County Teachers Association in the early 1970s. Farrel and Gloria retired together in 1992 and enjoyed their retirement at home and abroad.
Farrel was a prolific writer and known for his offbeat sense of humor. He self-published his autobiography in two volumes, and wrote a half dozen other books of wit, wisdom, and sarcasm. Farrel emceed senior high banquets for many years, which he considered an honor.
A viewing took place Wednesday, June 18th, 6-8 pm, at the Tate Mortuary in Tooele.
Funeral services were in the same location the following day at 11 am with interment at Tooele City Cemetery.
