Randolph Barnes served in Company F. 1st Minnesota Infantry in the Civil War.

After the war he settled in Coles County, IL and married Louisa Ashmore on Oct 19, 1870.

In the 1900 census of Charleston, IL he is recorded as 64 years of age born in Illinois in Aug 1836, living with his wife Louisa age 57 born in IL., and their daughter Callie J. Barnes 26 born in Nebraska. They were residing at 1603 Adams St., Charleston.

Randolph received an Army Invalid Pension for his service in the war; which he received for life. When he died on May 26, 1917 he was buried at Mound Cemetery on June 1, 1917.

Note: Following Louisa's death he married Mrs Castara Roberts Taylor in Vigo County, IN on July 30, 1903. They were both killed in the tornado that hit Mattoon and Charleston, IL on May 26, 1917. This information provided by Donna Stewart.
