Opel J. (Bickford) Rollins, 87, beloved wife of the late Elden Rollins and dear mother and grandmother, passed from her loving family to her heavenly home November 26, 2009, to be with her Lord and Savior. [According to Maine Marriages, 1892-1996: Opel J Bickford of Abbot married Frank E Rollins of Guilford on 14 Feb 1942.] She was born October 17, 1922 at Abbot, daughter of Ernest and Abbie (Gerrish) Bickford.

She and her siblings attended the Washington Elementary School and the Upper Abbot Baptist Church. Her four brothers graduated Abbot High School, which she also attended and where she was a member of the softball team. When that school was lost to fire, she attended Guilford High School where she and her husband Elden Rollins graduated in the Class of 1940. She was employed variously at the Ben Franklin Store, Hathaway Shirt Co., Guilford Town Office, and Key Bank. She worked with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4H, and was a longtime member of the North Guilford Extension. She and Elden raised wonderful vegetable gardens, took many walks to the Abbot town line, loved riding the country roads-especially to Willimantic, and built their cabin in the woods in Abbot in 1977 and a camp on Piper Pond in the 1940's. She and Elden traveled many miles with friends and their son's family to Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, Washington, D.C., and several western states and parts of Canada. They went to hunting camp many seasons with Vance and Laura Pratt. Since Elden's death in 2002, Opel has resided in Milo and at Sebec Lake with her daughter.

She is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother; a sister; 3 sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, a sister, Gwendolyn Minnie Bickford, and brothers, Eugene, Ivory and Frank Bickford. [According to Maine Death Records, 1960-1997: Eugene E Bickford died in Millinocket on 12 Feb 1969 at age 61.]

Friends may call from 2 to 4 PM, and 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak Street in Guilford. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home, 11 AM, Wednesday, with Rev. Isaiah Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Abbot Village Cemetery.

Those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Sebec Corner Baptist Church, 285 Milo Rd., Sebec, ME 04481, for the roofing fund; or the Guilford Historical Society, P.O. Box 893, Guilford, ME 04443. For an online guest register, go to www.CrosbyNeal.com.
