Russell Alva Parks, 82, of Fairbanks, AK., died Dec. 15 at his home.

Mr. Parks was born March 28, 1920, in Loveland, Colo., to Wilbur and Mary Moutrie Parks.

His family moved to Cheyenne while he was young.

He worked for C&S Railroad as a switcher at the age of 14.

One of his memories in Cheyenne was of his Sunday School teacher, Leo Armstrong, at the First Christian Church. He always talked to his class about prayer.

He was a member of the National Guard, actually the beginning of his long military career.

He married Nyla Ruby Roseboom on Aug. 12, 1938. She died Aug. 16, 1975.

He was in formation on Dec. 7, 1941, when word of the Pearl Harbor attack reached his regiment. He entered the Army Air Corps and became a gunner on bombers. He saw duty chiefly on B-29s and B-52s. He also served in North Africa 30 days after the Korean War started. He retired from the Air Force as a senior master sergeant in 1968 at Castle AFB, Calif.

He was a member of the VFW and an avid bowler.

Mr. Parks is survived by his children, Carol Lee Hill of Fairbanks, Russell Gene Hill of Lathrop.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter, Lola.
