Fatal Accident

Last Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Buelow, who live in Lyra, and their daughter, Mrs. Reinke, and husband of Rapidan, visited the first-named lady's brother, Mr. Wm. Weber of Decoria. As the husbands intended to return again on Monday for seed wheat, and as there was a probability of the breaking up of the streams which would prevent their visiting for some time, the ladies were induced to remain over night. Next day the men returned and after loading two wagons with wheat, started about three o'clock for home, the ladies riding with Mr. Reinke. In descending the hill at the Cobb river crossing, the grade being about thirty to forty feed the road was where the snow had drifted on and permitted to remain, was found to be ice and quite slippery. Mr. Buelow succeeded in descending in safety, but as the other wagon was descending, the bobs slipped and the team and contents were precipitated over the bank a distance of fifteen feet. The wagon box struck Mrs. Buelow upon the neck and with sufficient force to cause almost instant death, as she did not speak after the fall. Mrs. Reinke was severely bruised, but escaped without any broken limbs or serious injuries. The deceased was about 46 years old, and leaves a husband and five children, the youngest being only seven years. She was the daughter of Mr. John Weber, who was thrown from his wagon and killed by the breaking of his neck in an accident while descending the Bunker Hill road, some years ago. She was buried at Good Thunder on Wednesday last when many friends testified their deep sympathy with the family in this very sad affliction.
