Mrs. Joyce A. Compean of Bellingham passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at St. Joseph Hospital on Friday, Jan.17. She was 66.

Visitation hours will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Gillies Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Joyce was the daughter of Roy and Elsie (Moore) Neer and was born in VanBuren, Missouri on June 5, 1936. She moved with her family to Whatcom County in 1947 and in September of 1953 she was married to Juan Compean in Kingsville, Texas. She and Juan lived in Edmonds for over forty years where they raised their family and Joyce also worked as a clerk for Fred Meyers for fifteen years. She was a member of the Retail Clerks Union #1001 and they had recently returned to the county and settled in James St. Estates.

She enjoyed doll collecting, playing games and doing different types of ceramics. Her biggest love was spending time with her family and her many long term friends this was her life. Joyce will always be remembered for her love, kindness, generosity and patience. She never asked for anything but was always there for everyone she will be greatly missed.

She was preceded by her parents and sisters Dorothy Vanwart and Delores Vargas. Mrs. Compean is survived at home by Juan, her husband of forty-nine years, son Jerry and wife Connie Compean of Everett and children Angeline, Craig & Leslie, daughter Debra and husband Mark Lindquist of Bellingham and children Rick & Dustin and grandson Payton, son Johnny Compean of Lake Stevens and children Jesse & Jeremy, and son Tony and wife Angie Compean and children Cortnie, Tyler & Travis sisters Jean and husband Bob Jensen of Zion, IL. and Helen Farris of Sierra Vista, AZ. brothers Roy E. and wife Sharon Neer of Lynden and Dave and wife Darlene Neer of Carson City, NV. and numerous other relatives. Services are under the care of Gillies Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Lynden
