Mrs. Patsy Jane Stark, widow of the late Charles W. Stark and one of the pioneers of 1846, died at the home of her son, Charles A. Stark, 1172 Rural avenue, Portland, Thursday, March 28.
Mrs. Stark crossed the plains from Iowa with her parents in 1846. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon R. Brock, located on the donation claim near Rock Island, opposite to what is now New Era. They later moved to Astoria when Mrs. Stark was 16 years old. Two years later she was married to Mr. Stark.
Mrs. Stark was the mother of six children, Fannie E. Stark, George M. Stark, Alida L. Stark, Elton W. Garnet and Charles A Stark. The last is the only one who survives, four of the children having died in the last fie years. Three sisters, two brothers and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
