Last night a heavy and broken heart was gained, with the passing of our beloved Michael L. Griego "Hava" or "Havalin", age of 63, a resident of Dixon/Apodaca, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, with loving arms wrapped around him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan Andres and Cipricia Griego; brother, Anthony Leroy Griego; sister, Virginia M. Ginny Griego; nephew, Jimmy Ortiz, Jr.; brother-in-law, Armando J. Salazar; aunts and uncles, Manuel Griego, Celestino and Margaret Griego and Alice and Eliseo Griego. Michael had a heart that would wrap around anyone. He had a servant heart. He would do anything for anyone without expecting a single cent, with the exception of food. His favorite was what he considered "his surprise". His sister Lydia's white gravy and his niece, Bernadette's sopapillas. He was well known for all his artwork. Above all his biggest concern was his family whom he loved unconditionally. He is one that will be truly missed all who knew him. Mr. Griego is survived by his sisters, Lydia Salazar of Española and Diana Griego and husband Estevan of Dixon; brother, Robert Bobby Griego of Dixon; cousin considered like a sister, Vangie Gonzales and husband Richard of Dixon; maternal uncle, Nick Gonzales and wife Ermelina of Dixon; paternal uncles and aunts, Samuel Griego of Velarde, Lorraine Minnie Chavez of Albuquerque and Lorraine Hernandez of Velarde, Elenor and Lugarda Griego both of Dixon; nieces and nephews, Paul Padilla of Española, Kitty Dominguez of Las Cruces and her children, Ismael Jr., Stacie, Candie and Celina, Beverly Gomez and husband Gerald and their children, Giovanni and DiAngelo all of Española, Bernadette Salazar and fiancé Tommy Archuleta and their son, Derek Archuleta, Annabelle Almager and Miguel Medina and her children, Kory and Erika all of Española, Steven Griego and companion Naomi of Dixon and their children, Lacey and Kayla and niece, Tina Griego of Albuquerque; a nephew he adored and considered a son, Justin J. Salazar-Torrez of Española; as well as other loving relatives and friends. His best pets, Ranchita, Chami and Duke. Public visitation will begin on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a devotional service to follow at 6:00 p.m. A second devotional service will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Praise Temple in Dixon.
