Retired Brig. Gen. Aaron W. "Jeff" Beeman, 82, of Seattle and Lummi Island, died Tuesday at home in Seattle.

He was born Jan 1, 1904 in Bellingham, grew up in the Laurel area and was a graduate of Meridian High School and Washington State University.

He held a master's degree from the University of Washington and was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity.

In 1954, Gen. Beeman retired from the US Army after 30 years of active duty. He received the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal and five bronze service stars for World War II campaigns in Papua, New Guinea; the Philippines; and Leyte.

Gen Beeman served in the Pentagon; his last command was an quartermaster general, US Armed Services, Europe.

He was a past president of the Retired Officers Association. Active for many years as a Rotarian in Seattle as past president and a Paul Harris Fellow, he also served on the Salvation Army board of directors.

Survivors include his wife Louise of the family home; a son William of Seattle; a daughter Brenda Beeman of Richland; four step-children, Guy and Bruce Torian of Seattle, Lucia Torian of New York City and Suzanne Baake of Juneau; and three sisters, Beatrice Smith of Ferndale and Delia Larson and Ruth Davis, both of Lummi Island.

Funeral services and military honors will be at 2 pm Monday in Moles Funeral Chapel, US Army Chaplain Lt. Col. Robert E. Bendick officiating, with military personnel from Fort Lewis. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
