Thomas O. [sic] Burks, age 86, who was employed here for a number of years as a janitor at Indiana University, died Sunday at 5:00 a. m. at the Odd Fellows home in Greensburg, Indiana from a heart attack. Mr. Burks had suffered several heart attacks during previous months, but had always rallied. When he was first stricken, his condition was not believed to be serious and his family was not notified until his sudden death.

Survivors include two sons, Ollie E. Burks, 715 East Fourth Street; and Frank, 620 South Lincoln; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. His wife, Sarah, passed away in 1913 [sic].

Born in Indiana on April 25, 1861, Mr. Burks had spent most of his lifetime in this community. He made his home with his son Ollie for several years. After his retirement, he went to Lyons, Indiana to make his home with his sister. Following her death, he then entered the Odd Fellow's home.

He was a member of the South Union church and the Odd Fellow's lodge.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Tuesday at the Clear Creek church with Rev. Frederick Sears officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Music will be furnished by the church. Pall bearers will be members of the Odd Fellows lodge.

The remains will be left at the Day funeral home until the hour of the service.
