Wilbur Martin Sunderman, 88, died Saturday, February 9,1991, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The son of Fred and Lydia Rudig Sunderman, he was born September 18, 1902 in Noble Township, Cass County, Iowa. Except for two years, he was a lifelong Griswold area resident and attended schools in Noble Township. He attended barber college in Omaha and on January 14, 1925 began barbering in Council Bluffs. He returned to Griswold in 1927 and barbered with John Dickey. He was married to Lydia Dolch who preceded him in death in the late 1930's. On May 12, 1940 he married Edna Alice Barnes at Lewis, Iowa. He started farming in 1942 and retired from active farming within the last ten years. Mr. Sunderman retired from barbering in the mid 1960's. He was a member of the city council, served on the city water board, was president of the local school board, a member of the United Methodist Church, and at one time sang with a barbershop quartet.
Survivors include his wife, Edna, one daughter, Debie Stolk and her husband David of Casey, Iowa and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Lydia; two brothers, William and Freddie Sunderman; two sisters, Laura and Eva Wohlenhaus; and a brother Sam and a sister Mable, both as children.
