Sally Blaisdell-Field, of Stuart, Florida, formerly of Rockland, Maine, devoted mother and grandmother, loving daughter, sister, aunt, and niece, died on February 7, 2011 at St. Andrew's Hospital in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. She was 66 years old.
Raised on Monhegan and in Port Clyde, Maine, Sally received her education in the St. George schools, graduating from St. George High School in 1962. She graduated from the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston and worked as a legal secretary in Boston for several years. After her children were born, she returned to college and received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Maine.
Sally retired from a long career as a loan specialist for USDA Rural Development throughout Maine. When she retired, she moved to Florida to be close to her young grandsons. While in Florida she studied and became certified as a paralegal. Before she became ill, she looked forward to starting a new career in the legal profession.
She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi International sorority, and was also a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. In recent years, her most precious times were spent with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to the desert Southwest. She loved spending time on Monhegan, good books and good movies, her family and friends, cats, volunteer work, mermaids, and the occasional shopping spree. She always found the best bargains.
Sally is survived by her mother, Charlene (Blaisdell) Stimpson, of Tenants Harbor, ME; her son and daughter-in law, Russell and Meredith Fuller of Abington, MA; her daughter, Alana (Fuller) Sarno of Stuart, FL; two grandsons, Alec and Jacob Sarno of Stuart, FL; and a granddaughter, Sophie Fuller of Abington, MA. Survivors also include two sisters, Cathy Field of Punta Gorda, FL, and Nancy (Field) Frederick of Port Richey, FL. Her extended family includes aunts Jean Tarr of New Harbor, ME, Evelyn Radivonyk of Damariscotta, ME, and Elizabeth Poirier, of Sebring, FL; a step-brother, Fred Stimpson of Tenants Harbor, ME; several nieces, cousins, a nephew, and many wonderful friends and traveling buddies.
She was predeceased by her father, Earl Field, Jr. of Port Clyde, ME; grandparents, Russell and Goldie Blaisdell of New Harbor, ME; and Earl and Emma Field of Monhegan and Port Clyde, ME.
A celebration of her life will be held at the United Methodist Church in New Harbor on Saturday, March 5 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, she requested that donations could be made in her memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine, 87 Elm St., Suite 203, Camden, ME 04843 (www.mainewish.org), to your local ASPCA or Humane Society affiliate, or to a charity of your choice.
