BENJAMIN R. ALEXANDER, 87 ROSCOE - Benjamin R. Alexander, 87, passed away at 3:17 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, in his home surrounded by family members. Born May 19, 1920, in Roscoe, the son of Benjamin F. and Emily (Baldwin) Alexander. Graduated from Hononegah High School, class of 1938. Married Marion E. Malott on March 31, 1939, in Dubuque, Iowa. A Veteran of World War II, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He played professional baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system. Served on the first Roscoe Village Board as a trustee. Ben retired from Barber-Coleman after 38 years where he worked in the Machine Tool Engineering department. He also served on the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department for 31 years and as Fire Chief for 16 of those years. Ben was a member of the Rockton American Legion and the Roscoe VFW. Survived by sons, Colin (Susan) Alexander of Gobles, Mich. and Michael (Claire) Alexander of Bloomington; grandchildren, Scott (Renee) Alexander of Troy, Mich., Leah (John) Casper of Kalamazoo, Mich., Alison (CJ) Mayer and Gregg Alexander, both of Bozeman, Mont., Emily (Mike) Ansani of Mount Pleasant, Wis., Ruth Ann Alexander of Indianapolis and Colleen Alexander of Chicago; and five great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife, Marion in 2002; parents; brother, Stuart; and sisters, Pauline and Bessie. The family wishes to thank his special caregiver, Vicki Ciarpaglini. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service; the Rev. Dr. William Richard Kerr Sr. will officiate. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department or the Beloit Regional Hospice.
