Moses was born into a Mennonite family, as were his ancestors before him. His sons, Tingley and Milton, were not practicing Mennonites and we wonder if Moses remained Mennonite throughout the entirety of his life... We think evidence shows that he did not.
Moses married two women named Ida. The first was Ida Mae Kurtz on April 10, 1879. She already had a daughter, Nora (whom Moses raised as his own from age 3 to 14), and they had two children together, William and Sylvia. His second wife was Ida Elmina Hart, married on June 16, 1894. They had three children; Tingley, Milton and Viola. There are two Census records in 1930 and 1940 of another son named Archie, born in 1921. This was actually their grandson, Milton Francis. He was Tingley's son, raised by the grandparents following Tingley's divorce from the boy's mother, Grace Stackhouse.
Moses worked for the railroad. His death certificate states he had high blood pressure and died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
