MRS. RICE

Died at her residence on Fulton Avenue at 4 o'clock yesterday morning. She was the mother of F. W. Cook, proprietor of the well known brewery.

The deceased was born in Carlsruh, Baden, on the 24th of August, 1801, and at an early age married Mr. Christopher Cook. The young people came to America in 1829, landing at Baltimore, Md., where they resided for some time; afterwards moving to Washington, D. C. It was there that our enterprising citizen, F. W. Cook, was born. From Washington the family moved to Port Deposit, Md., where Mr. Cook Sr. died.

Some years subsequently, Mrs. Cook married Jacob Rice, and with him came to Evansville, then a mere hamlet, in 1836.

In 1838, Mr. Rice, associated with Mr. Kroener, built the old Evansville Brewery, and remained in partnership till 1858. Mr. Rice died in 1872 and since then Mr. Cook has been running the brewery.
Besides Mr. Cook, three daughters, Mrs. Caroline Decker, Mrs. Ernestine Schlamp and Mrs. Fredricka Prigler, are living. Her funeral will take place from her late residence at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
