Graveside services for Mahlon L. Goebel, 81, of Lubbock will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Abernathy Cemetery with the Rev. Marvin James officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.

He died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002.

He was born March 29, 1921, in Abernathy. He married Candy McAteer on June 20, 1951, in Lubbock. She died April 15, 1981. He married Eloise Kelley on Nov. 30, 1981, in Lubbock.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Rodney Edmunds, in March of 2001.

He grew up in Abernathy and moved to Lubbock after graduating from New Deal High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July of 1942 and was discharged in November of 1946. He retired in 1981 from the Santa Fe Railroad after 31 years of service.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debra Dupler of Lubbock; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
