He was a member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and member of the choir. He was a member of the Barnwell Lions Club for over 60 years where he served as tail twister for 45 years and was named Lion of the Year for 1970 and 1996. He was also a member of the Ellenton Agriculture Club where he served as secretary/treasurer for 1997 until 2008.
