The son of Johann (John) and Henriette Steffen Gropper who came to the US from Germany in 1882 with two small children Friedericka and Wilhelm.

The 1900 census shows 13 children only 11 still living. The children listed on that census are :

Married to Rose Glanzman in Lake Andes, SD September 1918.
