Born in Easton, Illinois 2-21-30 to Theodore and Bessie McKinney, died June 3, 2014 in San Bernardino, California, surrounded by loving family and friends. Garnett served in the Navy during the Korean war for 4 1/2 years serving on the USS Missouri and the USS Columbia. He was a member of the I.E.O.U Local #12 for 25 years as a master mechanic. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served in many positions, his favorite being Ward Mission Leader working with the missionaries. After retiring, his joy was being a Church Service missionary for the Bishop's Storehouse in Colton, CA. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grand- father, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce of 61 years, son James, daughters Debbie McKinney and Lori Scott. Five grandchildren, Tasha and Justin (Randi) Scott, Samantha, Catharine, and Adam McKinney, 11 great grandchildren and brother Charles McKinney of Illinois. Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1475 North Park, San Bernardino, CA. Viewing will be at 11:00 am with service at 12:00 noon followed by burial at Hermosa Gardens Cemetery, 900 N. Meridian Ave., Colton CA. Published in San Bernardino Sun on June 7, 2014.
