Susan Martha Steward, youngest child of George Washington Steward and Sarah Seely was born in Falls County, Texas in 1851. She was their only child born in Texas. She never married. After the death of her parents, she made her home with her brother, Jeremiah Terry Steward, until his death in 1894 and continued to live with his widow, Eliza Jane Whitaker Steward, until Jane's death in 1901. Susan lived with her nephew, Charles Burt Steward and his wife Vernon Compton Steward until her death at Stewards Mill, Texas in 1910.

Miss Susan Steward, aged about 60, died at the home of her nephew C. B. Steward, at Stewards Mill, Monday, after an illness of only two or three days.
