Johnnie was a well-known musician in Albuquerque as well as Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.
Johnnie was best known as the drummer for the band "Purple Haze". Johnnie could play multiple instruments (drums, guitar, piano/keyboards, trumpet, etc.) Music was Johnnie's greatest pride and joy in life.
Johnnie was an 18 year member of the American Legion Post 69 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6216.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Hil and Martha Griego and brothers, Florian, Albert and Marvin.
Johnnie left behind his loving wife of 18 years, Helen Ann Griego, son, Johnnie Jr. and his wife, Linda, daughter, Michelle, granddaughter, Ashley, great-grandson, Jeremiah, sister, Dolly and her husband, Gilbert Candelaria, brothers, Orlando, Alex, David and his wife, Joyce, step-children, Dyanne and Issac Baca, step-granddaughter, Monique and her husband, Mike Curley and step-grandson, Nathan War.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church, located at 3424 4th Street NW, Albuquerque, NM. Visitation will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverside Funeral Home of Albuquerque Chapel, Albuquerque, NM followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM with military honors as accorded by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
