Son of Robert Ewing and Mary Baker Ewing. Reuben married Eleanor "Elen" Whitsett in Logan County, Kentucky on February 25, 1796. He is listed in the 1810 US Census living in Logan County and in the 1820 Census living in Russellville, Logan County.

Reuben Ewing was a man of position and influence, and was often employed in the public service. He held a seat in the convention which formed the first Constitution of the State of Kentucky, in the year 1792.
